Step 1: Know Your Audience
When it comes to growing your social media profiles, it is extremely important to understand your target audience. For example, with Day-O-Lite, it is key for us to get their content in front of the many sales reps who sell their products nationwide.
With so many reps, and so many other manufacturers, it is key that Day-O-Lite's content stands out in the rep's mind. So, when a client need a fixture, they remember Day-O-Lite and recommend their product instead of the competition.
Step 2: Establish a Posting Schedule
Consistency is key when growing your social platforms. In order to make sure you stay consistent, consider setting up a posting schedule. Start with picking two days of the week, and time each day to post. From there, make sure you follow through. As it becomes a habit, start increasing your posting schedule to 3 to 5 days per week.
Step 3: Create Visually Appealing Content
The old saying "content is king" has never been more true. Today, people have so much content shoved down their throats that standing out amongst the noise is no easy task.
When creating content to post across your social platforms, use high quality images, and consider using photoshop or a free tool like Canva to add some visual pop to help it stand out!
We suggest searching through the top posts of relevant hashtags, in your industry/niche, and get inspiration. See what kind of content people are engaging with the most and put your own twist on it. What kind of videos do people want to see? What kind of images are performing the best with likes and comments.
Make sure to compare likes and views with how many followers that account has. If they have more views than they do followers, or at least 5-10% of their followers has liked the image or video, then that is considered good content you may want to get inspiration from.
Step 4: Use the Right Hashtags
Now that you've found what kind of content you know performs well, it is time to find the right hashtags. This can and will make all the difference, so it is the biggest section to cover.
Take the post below for example, it has reached nearly 250,000 people organically due to our use of the right hashtags.
Here's a quick trick you can implement today on finding winning hashtags. Just like with finding winning content we're gonna use this strategy to find winning hashtags.
Search on Instagram for relevant hashtags in your industry/niche. Check out the top videos and images in that hashtag.
What you're looking for, is if they have more views than they do followers, or if they have an engagement rate of 5-10% ((likes + comments) / followers) x 100 = engagement rate. So if their posts get 40 likes and 10 comments and they have 1000 followers, then their engagement rate is 5% ((40+10) / 1000) x 100 = 5%
To make it easy for you, just see if their videos get more views than they have followers. If so, then they must be using winning hashtags.
There's nothing wrong with writing down their exact hashtags and implementing them on your own video. They've just found what works and so you may also use them too.
Check their description section for the hashtags to write down on a piece of paper or your phone. If you don't see them, then check their comments section for the hashtags.
Every account is different so try implementing those hashtags on the description section of your post. Then on your next post, write those hashtags in on your comments section.
Give both posts 24 hours and check your post insights to compare which method works best, then only post your hashtags in that section of your post (description section vs. comments section) from here on out.
